Graduate Assistantships at the Union
The Indiana Memorial Union offers Graduate Assistantships in two areas of the Activities & Events department: Indiana Memorial Union Board (3 positions) and IU Outdoor Adventures (1 position). All assistantships are designed to complement the academic coursework of the student.
Individuals will gain experience in administration, training, leadership, assessment and evaluation, program development, budgetary planning and implementation, supervision, communication, public relations, advertising, facilitation and presenting, and problem solving.

| Summary, qualifications |
The Program Advisor is responsible for advising student directors of the Indiana Memorial Union Board and their program committees. As an integral member of the Union Board staff, the Program Advisor participates in the implementation of a leadership development program, assists in the monitoring of a $500,000 budget and may advise any of nearly 200 programs annually.
Qualifications: Must have been accepted into a graduate program at Indiana University. Experience and interest in a career in the college union/student activities field is desirable. Excellent communication skills, knowledge and experience within the student programming field, and strong work ethic required. Ability to adapt to a changing work environment desirable.

- Acts as staff advisor to assigned Union Board directors, committees, and programs
- Serves as a resource person in all aspects of program planning, budgeting, marketing, implementation, and evaluation
- Involved in planning and presenting leadership experiences for directors and committee members throughout the year
- Articulates the role of activities and the college union in a major university setting (to members of the campus community and beyond)
- Works closely with other staff members of the organization in promoting the goals of the IMU and Union Board
- Participates in staff meetings and represents the organization on campus committees as assigned

IU Outdoor Adventures Graduate Assistant 1 position, currently filled

| Specific responsibilities |
- Aid in the development of 30-36 HPER R110 courses per semester.
- Instruct 2-3 HPER R110 courses per semester.
- Work with Advertising Coordinator to establish annual advertising schedule for HPER R110 courses.
- Work Administrative Assistant Staff from the Department of RPA to update R-1 series website and brochure development.
- Attend weekly management staff meetings.
- Plan and facilitate monthly trip leader meetings.
- Assist in purchasing of retail and pro-deal items.
- Assist in coordinated efforts for vehicle reservations, driver’s forms, risk management plans, meeting room reservations, and other logistics as needed for each HPER R110 course.
- Assist in grading of written exams and papers.
