The Indiana Memorial Union offers internships in Marketing & Communications in the fields of marketing and graphic design. Interns gain practical, hands-on experience to complement their coursework. Students gain valuable job experience, build portfolios, and begin the process of a solid resume.
Individuals will gain experience in project team leadership, advertising program development, budgetary planning, copywriting, graphic design, advertising, presenting, and problem solving.
Marketing Coordinator/copywriter Internship 1 position, currently filled

The Indiana Memorial Union Marketing Department is responsible for the marketing functions of the Indiana Memorial Union and its departments.
Job responsibilities include:
Brainstorming new approaches to advertising and marketing campaigns.
Information gathering and writing
Inspiring creativity in the team
Obtaining production quotes, media placement
Project management
Qualifications: Creative, responsible, well-organized, ability to meet deadlines, good communication, writing and proofreading skills. Attention to detail and follow-through on projects is vital. Word, Excel, PowerPoint experience needed.
Sense of humor: imperative.
General computer savviness and technical curiosity will put you ahead of the rest. Dreamweaver experience scores major bonus points. Macintosh experience is helpful but not necessary. Marketing experience is a plus but not necessary.

| Specific responsibilities |
Development of marketing materials. Create marketing campaigns on behalf of the union and its various departments. Work with designers as part of the creative team. Pitch ideas to clients.
Copywriting. Write compelling advertising and promotional copy. Write informational text for Web site.
Project management. Prioritization of projects and workflow to ensure all projects are completed on time and with quality and customer service.
Traffic and job flow. Project trafficking to ensure due dates and timetables are met. Must be able to adjust for rush jobs and urgent projects. Must be able to re-evaluate job if timetables are missed.
The marketing coordinator schedules all ad space within the union and coordinates the placement of materials into that space. This includes display cases, ceiling banners, the TV slide show, and the Web.
The marketing coordinator assures that all of the publication advertising contracts are met and that campaigns are being carried out accordingly.
Communication redirection (mail + filing). Quite possibly the most exciting aspect of the job, the marketing coordinator would answer or redirect all snail- and e-mail appropriately. This position also files and orders supplies.

Graphic design internship 2 positions, currently filled
| Summary, qualifications |
Design projects ranging from small ads and flyers to displays to identity systems. Designer must focus on marketing and commercial aspects of design.
Qualifications: Fast paced environment. Must be able to take direction, be creative, work independently, and meet deadlines. Must be well-organized. Must be able to juggle numerous projects, be flexible, and have a positive attitude. Follow-through on projects is vital. Juniors, seniors, and graduate-level students are encouraged to apply.
Prior internships or graphic design experience helpful. Macintosh OS X experience is a must. Must be well-versed in Adobe InDesign (or similar program), Illustrator, and Photoshop. The ideal candidate will have Dreamweaver and Flash experience. Must be knowledgeable in design elements and principles.
Portfolio and resume required for interview.

Coordinate projects with outside vendors. Assist in execution of marketing projects from inception to completion, including production, pre-press, and proofing. Take direction from clients, marketing coordinator, departmental manager.
Responsibilities include creating basic concept and layout for marketing materials, obtaining production quotes, trafficking jobs and maintaining project sample files and proofreading.
