Dining Services' Steven Mangan Receives National Award
The Sodexo Foundation named IMU Dining Services’ Steven Mangan for
fighting hunger. “Each year the Sodexo Foundation recognizes Sodexo employees who
exemplify the company’s service spirit and help break the cycle of
poverty and hunger in America,” said Stephen J. Brady, president of the
Sodexo Foundation. “We are proud to recognize Steven Mangan as a ‘Hero
of Everyday Life’ for 2008.”
Mangan has led Sodexo and Indiana University in three years worth
anti-hunger programs, like supporting Hoosier Hills Food Bank donating
more than 15,000 pounds of surplus food.
Mangan also coordinates food drives on campus collecting more than two
and a half tons of canned food.
An active member of the local food bank’s board, Mangan is an
instrumental force behind the organizations search for a larger facility.
As part of the award, the Sodexo Foundation also gives a $5,000 grant
in the name of each Hero of Everyday Life to the hunger-related charity
of their choice. Mangan has selected Hoosier Hills Food Bank in
Bloomington, Indiana as the recipient of the grant.

Stone Belt Had a Ball, Herald Times Article
"I enjoyed the recent article entitled 'Gowns pour in for special prom,' where a local Indianapolis woman organized a formal for students with developmental disabilities. It was unfortunate that the HT did not have the chance to cover the Stone belt Winter Wonderland formal dance, which took place this past February at the IMU's Alumni Hall. Community donations provided suits and dresses, refreshments and a live band! The highlight of the event was the announcement of Frank Porter and Betsy Higgins as the King and Queen of the dance. Everyone in attendance had a ball! Thank you to Stone Belt and everyone involved in coordinating this fabulous event!" --- Amanda Denton, Bloomington
