R-1 Skill Courses
Gain Hands-on Experience in the Outdoor Classroom!
Our R-1 Skill Courses offer hands-on experience in outdoor classrooms to teach everything from backpacking and ice climbing, to kayaking and Leave No Trace. Depending on the course, they consist of two classroom sessions followed by a weekend field experience or are conducted during a first or second eight-week block.
Courses are semester specific, with some offered year-round and others only offered in winter (i.e. Ice Climbing is always offered in the spring semester).
Options could include: orienteering in the Hoosier National Forest, rock climbing in Kentucky, paddling in North Carolina, and cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in Michigan.
Participants acquire the skills to pursue healthy life-long activities and gain deeper insight and understanding about themselves and the outdoors.
