Recreation
Camping, hiking, bowling, movies, napping: the Union has activities to suit all kinds of people.
Be Active
Anyone for bowling, billiards, or backpacking?
The Union has what you need to do all three. (We hope not all at the same time!) We’re really a mecca for recreation on the IU campus, offering a variety of ways for patrons to relax, kick back, and enjoy life in southern Indiana.
The Back Alley is where you’ll find a 12-lane bowling alley, 10 billiard tables, and video games. (We even offer bowling leagues for the serious player.) We frequently offer specials for billiards and bowling, including free parking.
If you love the Great Outdoors, IU Outdoor Adventures is the place to get in gear for your next trip! You can rent or buy quality camping and hiking gear here, not to mention sign up for adventure trips and skills courses. Recent adventure trips include backpacking the Appalachian Trail in Tennessee and rock climbing and canoeing in Patoka Lake, Indiana.
Be Relaxed
If sitting in a comfortable theatre watching movies is more your speed, take advantage of the first-run movies that play in the Union’s Whittenberger Auditorium as part of Union Board Films. Newly renovated, the space features 404 new theater-style seats, new acoustics, and a new screen. Admission to the film series is free for students and $2 for nonstudents. Check out the UB Calendar for upcoming events.
If you need a nap or a quiet place to study or simply hang out, the Union has several lounges designed for just that. Relax in the most comfortable couches on campus—and one of our lounges even features the Hospitality Fireplace that burns year round.
