Indiana Memorial Union Board
Frequently asked questions Bloomington Time:

Q: What is IU Outdoor Adventures and what can it offer me?

A: Indiana University Outdoor Adventures, or IUOA, is an Indiana Memorial Union program for students, faculty, staff, community members, and alumni that offers unique outdoor recreational experiences to encourage social interaction among participants. The distinct atmospheres of nature and the outdoors offer an environment where new friends and unforgettable memories are made.

Q: What programs does IUOA offer?

A: IUOA is composed of five main programs, which include HPER-credited skills courses, Adventure Trips, Custom Trips, equipment rental, and a highly informative Resource Center that offers information to plan trips and excursions.

Q: Do you have to have experience to participate in an IUOA trip?

A: No experience is required to participate in an IUOA trip! We have trained trip leaders who will be there to help you every step of the way. We offer 100 adventure trips throughout the year, each one at a different skill level. There's something for everyone, from the beginner to the experienced adventurer.

Q: What if IUOA doesn't offer the trip I want to take?

A: No problem! IUOA offers Custom Experiences. You will be able to pick the location of the activity, as well as the length of your adventure. For more information, contact Dave Frost, the Custom Experience Coordinator, at 856-4092 or e-mail him at frostd@indiana.edu.

Q: I don't have a lot of time, especially on weekends, to devote to a trip. Are there day trips?

A: Trips can be as few as three hours to as long as three weeks depending on the trip. Custom experiences are perfect for allowing you to choose what is right for you and your group.

Q: Are IUOA trips expensive?

A: IUOA trips are very affordable. Trips range in prices depending on the activity and the equipment involved. A group's equipment is included in the trip/course fee. IUOA has been able to keep rental prices competitive; usually less than one would pay at a private outfitter. Students receive discount prices from the IUOA office.

Q: Are there programs available for corporate groups and organizations?

A: Yes. Recreational and team-building programs are becoming increasingly popular as organization managers recognize the positive results created through these sessions. IUOA offers tailor-made personal and social development programs to suit most organizations' needs and goals, providing the most dynamic experience possible.

Q: Where are pre-trip planning meetings held?

A: Typically pre-trip planning meetings are held in the IUOA Office or Tree Suites of the IMU, however, you should contact your trip leader or instructor to find out the exact location of the meeting.

Q: How can I find out more information about IUOA?

A: We are located in the Indiana Memorial Union on the Mezzanine level, across from the billiards room. Feel free to come in and pick up a brochure today!
